Saudi Arabia introduces new uniform code for bus drivers – Gulf News

Initiative aims to standardise driver appearances, enhance service quality
Dubai: The Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) of Saudi Arabia has announced a new uniform code for bus drivers, applicable across various sectors including specialized transport activities, bus rental and guidance, educational transport, and international passenger transport.
Set to be implemented on April 27, 2024, this initiative aims to standardise driver appearances, enhance service quality, and improve the sector’s image.
The approved uniform for women drivers offers the choice of an abaya with boots or shoes and an optional head cover or black cap. The mandatory attire includes a long-sleeved blue shirt, black trousers, a black belt, and black boots.
Men’s uniforms allow the option of wearing the national dress with boots or shoes, and optionally, a Shemagh/Ghutra or black cap. The compulsory uniform for male drivers consists of a long-sleeved blue shirt, black trousers, black belt, and black boots.
Licensed establishments operating bus transport and individuals authorised for educational transport must adhere to these uniform standards. However, the TGA permits establishments to design their own uniforms, subject to prior approval. These custom uniforms can include shirts (long or short-sleeved), long trousers, a belt, boots, and an optional cap matching the shirt colour.
Drivers may also add a jacket or coat to their uniform, provided it does not hinder service delivery. Driver identification cards are mandatory, displaying essential information such as the driver’s name, photo, number, and the name and logo of the establishment, or for educational transport, just the driver’s name and number. The uniform should be designed to not obscure any critical details on the ID card.
