Island transport – car hire, buses, taxis and ferries on Ibiza – Ibiza Spotlight

Ibiza is a small island, roughly only 40 km by 20 km, so wherever you want to go, it doesn’t take long. By road it is 16.5 km from Ibiza Town to the second largest town, San Antonio and 15 km to the third largest town, Santa Eulalia.
Do get about: Ibiza is a stunningly beautiful island and well worth exploring by car, bus or even boat.
These selected car hire companies offer cars, scooters and motorbikes at prices to suit every pocket and offering the best service.
The easiest and most comfortable way to get from the airport to where you are staying is by private airport transfer. Choose from standard or luxury vehicles just for you and your party or in a shared shuttle service, to reduce costs. Find more information about airport transfers here.
If there are three or four of you travelling, taxis are a comfortable and relatively economical way to travel. You can flag a taxi down at any time day and night if the green light is showing. Taxis are charged on a meter system (similar to the rest of Europe). See taxi prices, telephone numbers and app.
The island boasts an extensive and regular bus service. There are half-hour connections between all major resorts, including many of the most popular beaches. Buses run in the summer months from approximately 07:00 until 22:00. The disco bus then takes over from midnight until 6am, taking clubbers to and from all the major clubs and resorts.
The buses are air-conditioned and an extremely economical form of transport. Highly recommended. Ask in your accommodation for more details. For timetables see the website of the Ibiza Bus Company.

Ferries mainland Spain / Mallorca <-> Ibiza
The whole year round, there are regular ferries between mainland Spain (e.g. Barcelona, Valencia and Denia) and the neighbouring island of Mallorca, offered by the companies Trasmediterranea and Balearia. On these large ferries, you can also take your car. The ferry terminal is in Ibiza Town, at the end of the dyke behind Marina Botafoch (Google maps).
Ferries Formentera <-> Ibiza
The Aquabus low cost ferry connects Ibiza Town (all year round) and Playa d’en Bossa and Figueretas (May till September) with the port of La Savina on Formentera. Please note that Aquabus is only for passengers (plus luggage, bike and pets).
The large companies Balearia and Trasmapi connect several times per day from the harbour of Ibiza Town to Formentera, the whole year round. To get from the airport to the harbour you can take a taxi or the bus. On some of the ferries you can also take your car, scooter or bike. The ferry terminal is in the centre of Ibiza Town (Google maps).
There are also many boat excursions to Formentera offered from many resorts of the island, ask at the reception of your hotel for more details.
Ferries to nearby beaches, to the hippie market in Es Caná and for other excursions
From most resorts small ferries connect to nearby beaches several times per day, e.g. from San Antonio to all the beautiful beaches of the West coast like Cala Bassa, Cala Conta or Cala Salada or from Ibiza Town to Cala Llonga, Figueretas and Playa d’en Bossa.
There are also many boat excursions, for example to the hippie market in Es Caná, the magical island of Es Vedrà or the drumming in Cala Benirrás. Ask in your accommodation for more details or find a list of recommended boat excursions around the coast of Ibiza here.
