Speaking to Khaleej Times, Omar Mohammed Lootah, Managing and Finance Director of the APTC, said the ticket fare on both routes has been kept at Dh20 to make it affordable. The passengers who get down in Jebel Ali would be charged only Dh15. Both buses have the capacity to transport 30 passengers.
The public transport fleet, which included 600 taxis and 35 buses and vans, was able to meet 70 per cent of the demand earlier. After inducting more vehicles, 1,600 taxis are serving internal areas such as industrial areas, Jar and Musharif which lacked taxi services earlier.
All buses and vans on internal routes operate trips from 5am to 11pm. On the instructions of Shaikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, the APTC is planning to strengthen its fleet to provide 24-hour services, reduce run over accidents on highways and minimise traffic congestion as well as encourage people to use public transport. Mohammed Lootah said the APTC will soon move in to its new building in Al Jarf area which has been built at a cost of Dh5 million.
