Thiruvananthapuram: The One Day Home which provides shelter for women who reach the capital for urgent matters has been inaugurated by Minister KK Shailaja. The centre, a first in Kerala, would function round the clock on the 8th floor of the Thampanoor bus terminal.

The minister said that the One-Day Home aims to provide safe shelter to women who come for urgent matters like exams or treatments. She added that such centres would be extended to other districts as well. The project is conceived and executed jointly by the women and child development department and the corporation.
Girl children and boys up to the age of 12 years can stay with their mothers in the centre up to 3 days. Six cubicles and a dormitory that can accommodate up to 25 persons have been arranged here. The facility is air conditioned and has a dressing room, bathrooms, and clean drinking water as well. The rent for the dormitory is Rs 150 per day and Rs 250 for the cubicle. There is no advance booking for the stay.
The women should inform officials at the facility about your purpose of visit to Thiruvananthapuram. Besides, the identity cards, too, should be produced. The One-Day Home functions close to ‘Ente Koodu,’ which is a night-time shelter facility for women, run by the social justice department.
